About Us

Although the name may be misleading, the study of Advertising photography encompasses not only the photo shoot of advertising campaigns for billboards or for the shiny fashion photographs in magazines, but it also places emphasis on the professional mastery of classical and digital techniques or the processing of traditional materials while also developing creative solutions to artistic and advertising projects. The studio educates professionals in the field who are able to approach each task with technical precision and at the same time, to deal with it in a novel way. The students will get acquainted with the main genres such as still-life photos, photos of glass and porcelain, nude, portrait, landscape, architecture or fashion photography and they will acquire the skills in a wide range of techniques.

At the beginning, the darkroom will become their second home and the large format camera will become their faithful companion; later, they will use digital technology. Two excellently equipped studios will be available to them for working on school assignments, but also on their own projects, and the student Photogether Gallery will be available for exhibiting their own sets of works and their final exam works.  The students are taken care of by a team of expert educators composed of leaders in the photographic industry who transmit their own knowledge of many years of praxis while creating an environment of almost family studio atmosphere that the students like to be in.

Course of Bachelor’s studies
During their studies, students will be introduced to the main genres of photography such as reportage, portraiture, nude, fashion, food, still life, product photography of glass and porcelain and architecture. Students will learn to work with a wide range of photographic lighting techniques. At the beginning of the first year, students work with traditional black and white analogue technology and a large format camera. Once they have developed a careful awareness of light and its creative modelling with this classic technology, students move on to high-end digital technology from Canon or Hasselblad in the summer term.

Two professionally equipped studios are available to work on school assignments as well as their own projects, and the Photogether Student Gallery is available to showcase their own files and work. Three Apple iMac workstations are available for post-production. Students are taught by a team of top photography professionals who share their knowledge while creating a creative and friendly environment in the studio where students love to come.

An important part of the studio is the collaboration with practice and other FMK disciplines on collaborative projects, where students experience how creative teams work, for example in advertising agencies. Thanks to interdisciplinary cooperation, they make contacts that will be useful in the future.

An important part of the course is the collaboration with other disciplines on joint projects, where students experience how creative teams work in reality, for example in advertising agencies, and can make valuable contacts for the future. Graduates will certainly know their way around the world. One example is the recent Czech Grand Design Award in the Photographer of the Year category.

In recent years, our students have also been involved in other activities, such as the Bratislava OFF festivalu or the Unicov photo festival UFF.

AF students have also presented their work at the exhibition Happy Longing at the prestigious photography festival Month of Photography 2022 in Bratislava. The students’ fashion photographs could also be seen recently at Designblok 2023 as part of the latest No Man’s Land project. The project was created in close collaboration with the Clothing Design Studio. Currently, the students have also prepared their photographs for the exhibition Boundary II / Hranice II for the Rondo Sztuki gallery in Poland. The photographic project was created in cooperation with ASP Katowice.
