The essence of our studio is the story. The story and its heroes who tell it. Making each animated movie has taught us patience, forcing us to look for new ways to give our ideas an adequate form. We realize that every detail of an animation can convey very much without and we try to lead students towards the most functional result.
Animation is a game packed with fantasy that should not only be entertaining to the viewer, but also, to its author. However, it is necessary that students become accustomed to the fundamental principles of film-making. Because even imagination needs order. Based on it, ideas can then be built and own stories revived.
Animation? We’re looking ahead.
The tradition of Zlin animation is long, but only in recent years has Zlin gradually moved away from an emphasis on original animation, i.e. on an educational process that is supposed to educate directors. It no longer aims to produce distinctive authorial statements intended for festival audiences, but focuses primarily on ensuring that students learn the best possible craft skills, learn to work in a team, meet studio practice and begin to direct their professional career preferably in a narrower profile.
Even so, during the course of their studies, mainly thanks to their graduation works, they manage to create complex animated works. These are increasingly appearing in competition at major international festivals (Annecy, Cannes, Berlinale, Hiroshima, to name a few), as well as in TV/cinema distributions around the world (e.g. HBO).
We don’t teach. We lead.
We have no intention of teaching you animation. We intend to guide you. To tackle your work with you, to talk about the possibilities of animation, to nudge you out of your comfort zone. Expand each other’s horizons. Have fun, but don’t slack off.
We know it takes talent to create. But we don’t rely on it. We work with determination, diligence. That’s the point of animation for us.
