Re-election of Josef Kocourek as Dean of FMC
14. April 2025Mgr. Josef Kocourek, Ph.D. was re-elected Dean of the Faculty of Multimedia Communications of Tomas Bata University in Zlín. He was named to the position by the Rector of the University, prof. Mgr. Milan Adámek, Ph.D., and from 15 April he will continue as the head of the faculty for a second four-year term.
“I appreciate the trust I have been given for the next four years,” says Mgr. Josef Kocourek, Ph.D. and adds: “The Faculty has and will have great development potential, and is important in terms of creative industries on an international level.” He has been working at the Faculty of Multimedia Communications for more than 19 years. From 2018, he held the position of Director of the Department of Marketing Communications until 2021, when he was elected Dean of the Faculty for the first time.
During his previous tenure, the faculty actively developed in various directions. “We have opened new studios, such as Jewellery Design or Game Design, which are in great demand among applicants, or the creative workshop ROBOTA, which offers workshops for students, graduates and the general public.” says Josef Kocourek. In addition, thanks to intensive international cooperation and emphasis on the quality of outputs, the result of the creative artistic activities of the faculty has increased by a third, which confirms that our faculty is gaining recognition not only at home but also in Europe.
Regarding plans for the coming years, he says: “It is necessary to focus mainly on dislocation development, which is currently insufficient and hinders the development of the faculty in terms of new study specialisations or programmes that would be of interest. Unfortunately, this also hinders the overall development of cultural and creative industries, which are important for Zlín and the Zlín Region. At the same time, we are planning two international study programmes, which will help us to strengthen our position in international relations and I believe will also bring a number of project collaborations.”
