FDS students and their collection
Anna Čerbačeská/ DO YOU SEE ME?
Everyone sees colors differently, we all know that. But someone, unlike the majority, is not able to distinguish two completely different. Red and green are the most common examples. It occurs primarily in males, due to the X chromosome. The main inspiration was the Ishihara test, the most famous test to identify this disorder. The size of the models is for easier legibility of the inscriptions, they are supposed to be such banners. Are you able to identify exactly what is written on the models? DO YOU SEE ME?
Dorota Kostelná/ “Ivan don’t be stupid”
The collection called “Ivan neblbni” is a personal statement of the author, Dorota Kostelnaj, whose father was actively involved in the activities of the Gentle Revolution in Slovakia. We cultivate love for our homeland and we will not forget its history. We stood up and when necessary we will stand up again. Ivan wasn’t fooling around, neither are you. Love your nation and celebrate it, never forget.
Tara Gugová/ Elis Island
The collection contains a reference to mass immigration to the USA with a focus on people coming from Eastern Europe. Ellis Island, an island in New York, became the gateway for millions of immigrants. When these people found themselves in a completely new environment, their identity became the things they had with them, including their clothes. A person thrown into a new environment gradually loses his cultural identity unless he takes care of it. The author’s prints depict the contrasts of the individual’s personal cultural identity and the “new world”. These contrasts are also present in the forms and cuts of the individual models, which are also based on the form of folk costumes.
Kateřina Šeichová/ Family kitsch
Kateřina Šejchová’s collection is inspired by family heritage. It reflects the world of show, the world of grandeur and pomp. Her grandmother and grandfather made a living as vaudeville artists. Even as a child, they taught her how to perform and constantly created some kind of performance with her. They taught her to love attention and enjoy her moment of “fame”. In the collection, pomp and show is translated into the ordinary world in wearable clothing.
Rozálie Zervanová/ Family Tree
We all have some family history, but have you explored it in depth? The collection entitled FAMILY TREE deals with the author’s family tree traced back to the 18th century. However, she found her main inspiration in slightly younger objects – namely photographs from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, which have been preserved thanks to careful preservation and transmission from generation to generation. The author’s print was created on the basis of art nouveau drawings of flowers that were part of the family heritage.
