A Week Full of Design, This Year Mostly in an Online Outfit

April 2021Not only Zlin but this time from May 7 to May 14, 2021, any household around the world can transform into a place full of sharing and inspiration thanks to the Zlin Design Week festival. Zlin Design Week Conference with domestic and foreign speakers or an exhibition of dozens of international projects by young designers will reflect the topic of COOPERATION. There will also be awards for young talents in the Best in Design competition, workshops, fashion shows, or musical performances.
Zlín Design Week is here once again and that means only one thing – the week from 7 to 14 May will be full of design. The organizers are preparing a festival with the idea of intensive connection, sharing, inspiration, and support of young creators. And all that also connected with other fields.
Right at the beginning of the festival, on Friday, May 7, you will find out who will become the 12th holder of the Best in Design title. The Best in Design competition is already an integral part of Zlin Design Week’s activities, and this year almost 400 designers entered the following categories: Product & Industrial Design, Fashion Design, and Communication Design. The whole broadcast will be moderated by actor and singer Jan Cina and you can watch it from 7 pm on the Zlin Design Week’s Youtube channel.
The Zlin Design Week Conference, which combines design and marketing, traditionally has its place in the program, thus offering an insight into how the cooperation between the two fields takes place, what its benefits and pitfalls are. This year, 14 speakers will share their experience in podcasts and videos. Among them will be, for example, graphic designer Vasjen Katro, who has worked with brands such as Coca-Cola, Apple, and Adidas, Joana Lacerda, a Portuguese businesswoman and coach; one of the founders of The Pop Up Agency – Maksimilian Kallhed; a British expert on creative industry David Parrish or Czech Studio Najbrt.
The Zlin Design Week exhibition will present the main topic of COOPERATION mostly through the connection of university studios and participatory design. Presented will be a selection of innovative projects by universities and individual designers. With these projects, they enter the business sphere and the public space at the local and international levels. Visitors will be able to visit this year’s exhibition in the online space directly on the Zlin Design Week website and view dozens of works until May 31, 2021.
What about the accompanying program? There will be workshops on the photo studio MOCUP.SPACE and David Svoboda about the graphic program Canva or the course Design Thinking which is organized for high school students and teachers under the auspices of Grow with Google, New Generation of Founders. Apart from education, not only design fans may visit a fashion show, music performance, or a new program, which is being created under the auspices of Design CANTEEN – a panel discussion with designers and the media.

Most of the program will be available completely free of charge, but there will also be the possibility of voluntary entry – visitors will have the opportunity to donate funds for the organization and development of the festival and the organizers in return will give them a festival merch, which is created in cooperation with local producers.
