Finalist of Czech Grand Design 2024
27. February 2025Every year, the Academy of Design of the Czech Republic awards the Czech Grand Design prize, which aims to draw public attention to extraordinary achievements in the field of design. The best works in the fields of product design, fashion, jewellery, graphic design, photography and illustration are evaluated. One of the 3 finalists in the graphic design category is Adrián Gubrica with his diploma thesis from the Digital Design studio at Tomas Bata University in Zlín.
“I am indescribably happy, not only for myself, but for the entire Digital Design studio, that my project has made it to the final of the Graphic Designer of the Year 2024 category at the Czech Grand Design Awards. It is an honour for me to be on the same stage with important acts within the Czech design scene, such as the Identita project,” Gubrica describes his enthusiasm. His project, called The Interactive Dictionary of Free Speech, is a web design that popularises the topic of free speech through original and visually compelling design.
It provides users with educational content on the history of free speech, phenomena such as cancel culture, hate speech, misinformation and others. All information is presented in an interactive 3D environment. Diverse animations, a dramatic soundtrack and advanced technical design are other elements that make Gubrica’s project an exceptional contribution to the field of graphic design and a manifesto of the technological and creative possibilities of the contemporary web.
The award ceremony will take place on 3 March 2025 at the Estates Theatre in Prague.
