Zlin Design Week 2025 presents the programme and invites you to DIALOGUE
22. March 2025With the first days of spring comes the first glimpse of the Zlin Design Week 2025 design festival. The Faculty of Multimedia Communications at UTB invites you to the 11th edition of this event packed with exhibitions, workshops and, most importantly, art. Whether you are students, designers, or simply art lovers – come to Zlín during the week of May 7-13 and experience ZDW for yourself.
“DIALOGUE is not just a theme, but the main principle of this year’s edition and the whole programme. We want to open a discussion about how design influences our everyday lives and how each of us can enter into it,” says Ondřej Staněk, creative and programme director of Zlin Design Week, adding: “We believe that the best ideas come from open discussion. That’s why we are looking forward to various events that encourage debate. Many of them will take place in outdoor spaces to encourage openness and accessibility for all.”
Visitors can expect workshops, exhibitions, inspiring discussions and an unusual fashion show during the 7 days. You will be able to choose from both paid and unpaid parts of the programme, for which tickets can be purchased from 4 April 2025 on smsticket.cz.
Opening ceremony of the festival and vernissage of the main exhibition DIALOGUE
On Wednesday 7 May at 8 p.m., the festival and the opening of the main exhibition DIALOGUE will start at the Zlín Castle. The exhibition, which will be open to the public free of charge from 8 to 13 May, will offer a view of design as a communication tool.
Design Dazzle, powered by Pecha Kucha
Another attraction of this year’s programme will be a presentation showcase of creatives from the Czech Republic and Slovakia at the Zlín Castle, which is called Design Dazzle, powered by Pecha Kucha. This part of the programme is charged – the basic symbolic entrance fee is 100 CZK, 80 CZK for students and 50 CZK for severe health disability card holders.
Fashion show: fashion that goes beyond the boundaries of a regular show
For fashion lovers, an unconventional fashion show is prepared on the 9th of May, which promises a visual experience and a new perspective on contemporary fashion. The premiere performance will start in Studio Z of the Zlín City Theatre at 6.30 p.m. and the second show will follow at 8 p.m. “Our Fashion show this year is not primarily about clothes on the catwalk – it is about stories, emotions and creativity. Three talented designers and one designer duo will present their work, whose collections break stereotypes and show how fashion can be bold, playful and deeply thought-provoking at the same time,” comments Ondřej Staněk. Tickets for the show, which will be followed by a party in the modern building of the Faculty of Technology at UTB, will also be available from 4 April 2025 on the smsticket.cz portal.
Design on the Edge: Conference without formality
At the end of the festival, ZDW has prepared an informal conference Design on the Edge, which will bring together designers, students and enthusiasts.On 13 May, they will discuss topics in the field of digital, product and motion design at the Zlín Castle. Tickets for the conference will be available for purchase at the door for 100 CZK.
During Zlin Design Week, the awards ceremony of the international competition Best in Design 2025 will also take place.The rich supporting programme will offer interesting events such as ZDW Cinema, where several short films about design, architecture and culture will be screened. Design KANTYNA will allow informal meetings with experts, inspiring discussions on current trends and networking opportunities. There will also be the popular Sunday Design pop-up, where you can buy original pieces by young creators.
