To be a designer for a week: The first round of the creative camp in the new ROBOTA workshop

In the newly emerging open creative workshop ROBOTA, located in the 44th building of the Svit complex on Vavrečkova street, a city camp for children called “A designer for a week” was held from July 17 to 21, 2023. The camp, whose goal was to bring children closer to the world of design, was a great success.

“It is inspiring to see how quickly the children adapted to the workshop environment and with what enthusiasm they threw themselves into the work that my colleagues and I prepared for them. During the five days of the camp, they got to know the concept of design, learned something about the history of Tomáš Bata and the entire campus, and with the help of modern digital technologies they tried to design and manufacture their own products, “says Jitka Honsová, manager of the UPPER – Center of Creative Industries and Entrepreneurship, which belongs to our faculty.

During the week, 20 children aged 6 to 14 learned what design is and how it is related to the personality of Tomáš Bata. The practical part of the camp included work with modern technologies. Participants learned how to work with a 3D scanner, tried out 3D printing, laser cutting, working on a plotter and created their own T-shirts and board games. At the end of the camp, the young designers presented the logos of their design studios and a robot prototype inspired by Baťa’s slogan:  “Thinking to people, toil to machines”.

The second round of the camp, which will take place from August 21 to 25, is already fully booked. We believe that this initiative continues to inspire and motivate children for further creative projects.

The ROBOTA open creative workshop will officially open to the public in autumn 2023.
