Robota joined the international FAB MAKER project and hosted a meeting of makerspaces from Czechia and Germany
31. March 2026The creative technology workshop Robota at Tomas Bata University in Zlín has joined the international project FAB MAKER: Fostering alliance and building makerspaces and workshops, funded by the Erasmus+ programme. As part of the project, a meeting of representatives of open workshops from Czechia and Germany took place from 19 to 21 March 2026 in Brno and other cities, including Zlín.
The programme began with a meeting of the project partners and the General Assembly of the Association of Open Workshops (AOD) at the JIC premises in Brno. The day also included the public FAB MAKER Forum, where six Czech and six German workshops presented their activities together with their umbrella organisations, the Association of Open Workshops and the German organisation Verbund Offener Werkstätten e.V. Participants shared their experience of running makerspaces and discussed both the challenges and future direction of these open creative spaces.
“It is becoming clear that, although we operate in different countries and conditions, we are dealing with very similar issues, from the sustainability of operations to safety and working with communities. For us, in-person meetings and the sharing of experience are the greatest added value of the project,” says Jitka Honsová, manager of the Robota creative workshop.

Sharing practice across regions
The programme also included visits to selected makerspaces. Participants visited, for example, StrojLab at Brno University of Technology and FabLab Brno, the makerspace at the library of the Faculty of Arts at Masaryk University, the Hobbylab workshop in Rousínov and the Geniátor community workshop in Hlubočky. Each space presented a different approach to working with the public, ranging from university and municipal workshops to smaller community projects aimed primarily at children.
The meeting culminated in Zlín, where participants visited the Robota creative workshop and 44 Centre of Crafts. Robota also hosted a joint workshop focused on the creation of sustainable moss terrariums, which complemented the practical part of the exchange of experience.

The FAB MAKER project continues
The FAB MAKER project aims to connect open workshops across Europe, support the sharing of know-how and foster the development of makerspace communities. The recent meeting in Czechia is one of the steps in a long-term collaboration that will continue in the coming months. In autumn 2026, participants will visit partner workshops in Germany, and the project will culminate in May 2027 at Maker Faire Prague, where the final conference will take place.
More information about the project will gradually be published on the official website fabmaker.eu and on the project’s social media channels. The latest updates from Robota can be found on its website, Instagram and Facebook.
