“Ostrov svobody” the movie is shortlisted for the Czech Lion film Awards
23. January 2023The graduate film of director Petr Janushka from The Audiovisual Arts Studio was nominated between the top five student films in the Czech Lion film Awards. The movie, set in 1983, is the largest student project in the history of the Audiovisual Arts Studio of FMC.
The main roles were cast by Jiří Mádl and Judit Bárdos, who portray two young people before their thirties, Jindřich and Eva, who meet on a Czechoslovak Airlines tour flight from Prague to Havana. Both remember the pioneer camp where they met at the age of thirteen, and their old affection quickly revives. They tease and argue about what true adventure and true freedom are, and every answer, look, or fleeting touch strengthen the bond that is reborn between them. But after a romantic night comes a cold morning over the Atlantic, which unexpectedly confronts both of them with a fatal life decision.
The movie was made under the direction of executive producer František Ef Horvát at the Kunovice Aviation Museum, in the Tupolev 154M plane – the “Nagan Express”, on which board the Czech ice hockey players celebrated the Olympic gold when returning from the Winter Olympic Games in Nagano, Japan in February 1998.
