Michaela Spružinová won the Irish International Biennale of Glass

The Irish International Glass Biennale is a prestigious exhibition of current trends in glass art. It aims to convey to the public the development of contemporary glassmaking processes and their perfection. This year, MgA, a teacher from the Glass Design studio, appeared among the exhibiting artists. Michaela Spružinová.

The exhibition is organized through the National College of Art and Design (NCAD) in Dublin. An international jury selected glass artists from Europe, North America, the Middle East and Asia. Their expertise in the respective fields of glass curation, practice and education has resulted in a selection of 51 artists from around the world. The expert panel was represented by: Kim Mawhinney, Chief Curator of Art at the National Museums of Northern Ireland; Katya Heller, director of Heller Gallery, New York; Zhang Lin, founder, director and president of the Shanghai Museum of Glass and Karen Donnellan, artist and educator. The curator of the exhibition is Dr. Caroline Madden from the National College of Art and Design, Dublin. At the same time, this commission selected one winner of the MgA exhibition. Michaela Spružinová, whose work corresponds to the highest standards of glass curation.

The Irish International Biennale is co-funded by NCAD and Creative Europe as part of the Creative Europe: Imagining Sustainable Glass Network Europe (ISGNE) project. This EU-funded project includes four partners in the UK, Germany, Latvia and Ireland and works with 33 affiliated organizations in nineteen European countries. This ambitious five-year project launched a dynamic schedule of cultural events, workshops, exhibitions and publications revolving around glass and its infinite possibilities in the context of intangible cultures, design, visual and applied arts.
