Inside of Dotek

September 2023On October 11, together with the artist PXS, in the 44th building of Svit in Zlín, the student body of FMK UTB in Zlín will unveil the theme of the twelfth annual Fashion Event Dotek, the proceeds of which will once again be donated to the non-profit organization Alliance of Women with Breast Cancer. In addition to revealing the topic, the program of the Inside of Dotek event includes a panel discussion in cooperation with the Zlín community radio Obscura, which will introduce the creation of music for fashion shows and the pop-up shop of the second-hand project Icons of vintage students of the Clothing Design studio.
Fashion Event Dotek has been running for 11 years, during which it has helped several non-profit organizations. She currently cooperates with the Alliance of Women with Breast Cancer, o.p.s. Symbolically, Fashion Event Dotek connected with new media theoretician, artist and feminist PXS, who on October 11 will reveal the theme of the twelfth edition, which will take place on March 23, 2024, with his performative performance in the industrial 44th building of Zlín’s Svit.
In his performances, PXS likes to use a rave rhythm and alternates individual images in the rhythm of the heart’s pulse, working with meta-information, which he gradually reveals in layers of references and meanings. “Our world is toxic and full of danger, and the apocalypse seems inevitable. But what if she was the key to a new beginning?” the Slovakian artist and founder of the controversial New Aliens Agency, which contributed to the expansion of diversity in the global fashion industry and became one of the most remarkable agencies of its time, describes his performative performance, adding that: “everyone must fight for themselves and quickly adapt to the new conditions. How we can transform ourselves and what we do about it is up to us.”
A panel discussion with local DJs will take place in the newly created community space of Radio Obscura. The inspiring theme of creating music for fashion shows will be completed by a small DJ set with an afterparty. At the same time, the community space will be complemented by an abstract sculpture from the workshop of students of the Creation of Space studio, which will go through a process of change during the evening. This process is remembered here not only as an artistic act, but also as a symbol of our human existence and ability to change.
Part of the accompanying program this year will also be the newly created Vintage Icons project by Kateřina Šeichová, a student of the Clothing Design studio, which focuses on upcycling and the sale of selected second-hand and vintage pieces. The project tries to combat the ever-accelerating trend of fast fashion and contribute to mitigating the impact of the clothing industry on the environment. Proceeds from the sale will support Ikony Vintage, the Alliance for Women with Breast Cancer.
The doors of the 44th building in the Zlín Svit campus will open on Wednesday, October 11 at 4:00 p.m. After the opening, the new media artist and theorist PXS will present his performance titled Metamorphosis: Adapt or Die at 5:00 p.m. This will be followed by a panel discussion at 18:00 in cooperation with the Zlin community radio Obscura and local artists, which will be followed by an after-party. Pop-up shop of the Ikony vintage project will be open all the time until 20:00. Admission to the entire event is voluntary.
