FMK signs Memorandum for sustainable audiovisual industry
7. October 2024The Faculty of Multimedia Communication at Tomas Bata University in Zlín has joined a major initiative for sustainability in the Czech audiovisual industry. Together with other key institutions, including Czech Television, FAMU and commercial TV stations, the Faculty has signed a memorandum on the establishment of the Czech Platform for Sustainable Audiovisual.
This platform will serve as a hub for discussion and development of concrete steps to minimise the environmental impact of audiovisual production. The Faculty is committed to actively promoting sustainable production practices, education and innovation in the sector. As an educational institution, it intends to play a key role in shaping a new generation of professionals who will be able to contribute to sustainability not only in their creative work, but also in their production practices.
As part of the establishment of the platform, the Principles of Sustainable Filmmaking in the Czech Republic, were created, which represent a set of basic recommendations in the production of audiovisual works to support the reduction of the negative impact of the audiovisual industry on the environment. Czech audiovisual filmmakers can voluntarily subscribe to the principles and implement them in their projects at a basic or advanced level. The Memorandum itself commits the founding members to work together to achieve each goal. Regular meetings of the discussion forum of the Czech Platform for Sustainable Audiovisual will initially take place four times a year, with detailed planning and implementation of specific initiatives to be handled by individual working groups. The Platform, which may move to a more formal structure in the future depending on the needs and interests of the founding stakeholders, will start its activities in January 2025.
