The new FMK Design Select concept supports young designers on their way to international competitions

February 2026The Faculty of Multimedia Communications at TBU in Zlín is launching FMK Design Select, a new support format focused on involving students in Czech and international design competitions. The curated selection of opportunities is intended for students of the DMC, the Arts Management studio, and all FMC design studios, offering them expert advice and support in submitting their own projects. The deadline for applications is March 15, 2026.
“Many talented students lack confidence at the beginning of their studies or even during their studies, or they fail to see the importance of competitions for their portfolio and future career direction. That is why we want to create an environment that will motivate and support them,” says FMC Dean Pepa Kocourek. FMK Design Select helps students better navigate the range of competitions on offer and strategically develop their career paths.
The FMK Design Select format will be launched in parallel with other faculty activities and will complement existing open calls, such as those for specific design shows and competitions. The clear separation of the individual formats is intended to make it easier for students to find their way around and offer targeted support according to their current needs.
“This is not about one specific competition, but rather a long-term concept that helps students strategically select opportunities that match their focus, level, and ambitions,” explains Jitka Alexová, manager of the UPPER center. With this step, the faculty is strengthening its role as a guide and curator in the area of student competitions and professional development.

Students can apply with either a completed project or a competition entry, where the theme is yet to be announced.
FMC has long supported student participation in competitions as an important part of education and professional training. FMK Design Select further develops this effort and creates a space where students can better recognize their potential and apply it in a broader, often international context.
