Culturea 2023

Two seemingly different countries, Denmark and Bhutan, will be presented as part of this year’s Culturea cultural travel festival. These are the two happiest countries in the world, and “happiness” is also the main theme of this year’s edition. The festival will take place on April 12 in the premises of the 15th building of the Bať Institute in Zlín.

Culturea is a festival organized under the baton of our students. The content of each year is to bring the culture of two countries closer to the visitors. This year’s countries are Denmark and Bhutan, which have a common theme – and the happiness that will be carried throughout the festival.

Hitchhiking is another theme this year. “I got into hitchhiking thanks to the X-Challenge because I met a lot of people who travel like this and found it to be fun. You always meet a lot of new and interesting people and you can make acquaintances all over the world this way. Of course, I felt more secure when I traveled by train, but gradually I found out that people are not bad, as they generally say, but they are often willing to buy you food, take care of you, or even give you a roof over your head. I decided to include hitchhiking in Culturea, because as students we like to travel cheaply, and in addition, this is how many unforgettable experiences are created,” says Culturea manager Lucie Makovská.

The festival will be accompanied by the famous traveler Slávek Král, who made two journeys around the world by hitchhiking. The director of the Czech branch of UNICEF, Pavla Gomba, will share with the visitors the beauty of Bhutan, the gross national happiness, and not only that, the writer Kateřina Misíková will give a lecture and share her experiences about traveling through Denmark. And Marek Mlynář, leader of the action-separated X-Challenge community, will come to tell us about what experiences hitchhiking can bring us and what it can teach us, together with his colleagues.

Workshops are also prepared for visitors. For example, those interested can try painting with the natural dye henna, which is lightly applied to the skin and creates a “tattoo”, which originated in India but is becoming very popular here too.

Culturea is not only about one day, but a number of accompanying programs take place throughout the year, such as a travel pub quiz, speed dating with students with Erasmus+ or hitchhiking to Denmark.

Come on April 12 to experience the unique atmosphere of two seemingly different countries – Denmark and Bhutan. You can buy tickets at GoOut.
