Best of Art Colony Cered

Gallery G18, the gallery of the Faculty of Multimedia Communications of TBU in Zlín, is preparing a new exhibition Best of Art Colony Cered, which will present the best of the works of the international art association Art Colony Cered. The opening of the exhibition will take place on December 6, 2023 at 6 p.m.

Art Colony Cered is an artistic and intellectual creative workshop founded in 1996 in Hungary, which aims to strengthen the social, sociological, economic and cultural role of contemporary art, not only in metropolises, but also in regional peripheries. It strives to preserve local folklore wealth, but at the same time to strengthen new creative, technological and material processes and to present important artists at joint meetings, exhibition projects and in printed publications.

The exhibition will show a curated selection of the best sculptures, installations, graphics, textiles and photographs from the last themed summer symposia that take place every year in the Hungarian village of Cered. Founding personalities from the older generation will be introduced – conceptual and textile artist Cecilia Kun and graphic artist Lászlo Sánta, as well as other artists – sculptor Pál Németh, conceptualist Szabina Péter and Eszter Pálik, photographer Agóta Krnács, Slovak sculptor and coordinator Jozef Suchoža.

The curators Jozef Suchoža (Art Academy in Banská Bystrica) and Miroslav Zelinský (FMC TBU in Zlín) are behind the selection. “The connection between the Zlín environment and the Hungarian art association Art Colony Cered is greater than it might seem. One of our pedagogues, the author of objects Vladimír Kovařík, has been coming to Cered for decades, and a number of the mentioned authors also take part in the Panta Rhei symposium every year, which our faculty has been organizing for almost two decades,” comments Zelinský on the significance of the exhibition.

The opening of the Best of Art Colony Cered exhibition will take place on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, from 6 p.m. The exhibition will then last from 7 December 2023 to 1 February 2024. Entrance to the gallery is free for everyone, opening hours are from Monday to Thursday 13:00-18:00.
